ORD 2017 ORDINANCE NO . 0 001 AN ORDINANCE restricting heavy truck traffic on N . W . Norwood Street from its intersection with N . W . 6th Avenue to N . W . 10th Avenue , and on N . W . Benton Street from N . W . 12th Avenue to N . W . 18th Avenue . THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAMAS DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS : Section I The Council makes the following findings with respect to heavy truck usage on that portion of N . W . Norwood Street lying between N . W . 6th Avenue and N . W . 10th Avenue and that portion of N . W . Benton Street between N . W . 12th Avenue and N . W . 18th Avenue . A . The aforedescri bed sections of N . W . Norwood Street and N . W . Benton Street are located in residential neighborhoods . B . The aforedescribed sections of N . W . Norwood Street and N . W . Benton Street are not arterial routes . Co The aforedescribed section of N . W . Norwood Street is extremely hilly and has multiple curves with limited sight distances . D . The aforedescribed section of N . W . Benton Street is narrow with parking only on one side of the street . Where vehicles are parked , there is inadequate room for two vehicles to pass each other . E . Alternative routes exist for truck traffic Other than use of the aforedescribed sections of N . W . Norwood Street and N . W . Benton Street . Section II It shall be unlawful for any person , firm , partnership , corpora - tion or other entity to operate or allow to be operated a motor vehicle which exceeds thirty - five thousand ( 35 , 000 ) pounds gross vehicle weight , whether or not loaded or licensed for such weight , on that portion of N . W . Norwood Street lying between N . W . 6th Avenue and N . W . 10th Avenue , and on that portion of N . W . Benton Street lying between N . W . 12th Avenue and N . W . 18th Avenue . The restrictions set forth herein shall not apply to vehicles which are in the process of making a pick up or delivery within the boundary stated above . Said restriction shall also not apply to any vehicles which are Ordinance No . page 2 required to access the above stated areas for emergency , sanitary , maintenance , or other public purposes . Section III The Director of Pub ? ic Works for the City of Camas is hereby authorized and directed to erect signs informing the public and users of said streets of the restrictions on heavy truck traffic . Section IV If probable cause exists to believe that a violation of this ordinance has or is occurring , then any duly commissioned police officer may require the driver of said vehicle to proceed to the nearest available weigh scales for the purpose of weighing said vehicle . Section V Any person violating any provision of this ordinance shall be guilty of committing a traffic infraction , and upon being found to have committed such infraction shall be assessed a monetary penalty not exceeding the sum of $ 250 . 00 . Each time a vehicle is used contrary to the provisions of this ordinance shall constitute a separate offense within the meaning of this ordinance . Section VI This ordinance shall take force and be in effect five ( 5 ) days from and after its publication according to law . PASSED by the Council and APPROVED by the Mayor this day of , 1995 .
