{{ a A Ir f MEMORANDUM
IV* 4444
TO : Council , Mayor , Doug
FROM : Joan Durgin
DATE : April 12 , 1999
SUBJECT : Recycling rates
The Finance Dept . checked with Waste Connections about their recycling rates
county - wide and found that the City of Camas recycling rates are actually the
lowest in the county . I believe that we would not have any leverage to ask Waste
Connections to lower their rate , for the City of Camas . Here is a listing of the county
rates :
Urban Growth Area $ 2 . 90/month weekly service
Cascade Park 2 . 63 / month weekly service
Rural County 4 . 00/month bi - weekly service
Ridgefield 2 . 55 / month weekly service
Vancouver 3 . 00 /month weekly service
City of Camas 2 . 30/month weekly service
We bill for a two month period for $ 4 . 60 , so it may appear that we have higher fees
than other locations .
Waste Connections contract says that we are to pay them $ 2 . 52 per month , per
household . For the past two years we have paid them $ 2 . 41 per month/per
household and we did not pass that 11 cent increase onto the residents . The ll
cent difference of what we charge residents and what we paid Waste Connections
(formerly Evergreen Waste ) was $ 10 , 953 . Now , this year , I am requesting we raise
our monthly fee to about $ 2 . 50 , or $ 2 . 52 per household for the next two years to
recover most or all of our current costs . With this increase , we still would have the
lowest rates in the county .
