A RESOLUTION dedicating the Washougal River Walking
Bridge in the name of Don and Eunice Abrahamsen.
WHEREAS, the Washougal River Greenway Trail includes a pedestrian walking bridge
over the Washougal River, an amenity which has enhanced the enjoyment of this natural resource
to members of the community and will for generations to come; and
WHEREAS, in the way in which they lived their lives, Don and Eunice Abrahamsen
exemplified the spirit of service above self, for their country, their community, and their families;
WHEREAS, Don Abrahamsen was born on January 10, 1929 and made Camas his home
for 45 years until his passing on March 7, 2007; and
WHEREAS, Don Abrahamsen served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during
the Korean War; and
WHEREAS, until his retirement in 1986, Don Abrahamsen served as the Director of
Logistics and Planning for the Camas paper mill; and
WHEREAS, Don Abrahamsen's service to his community included positions on both the
Camas Planning Commission and as a member of the Camas City Council; and
WHEREAS, Don Abrahamsen was a leading member of the Camas/Sohoe Sister City
Program, including several trips to Japan as a representative of the City of Camas; and
WHEREAS, service to the community was also a hallmark of Eunice Abrahamsen, one of
the founding members of the Friends of the Cemetery; and
WHEREAS, Eunice Abrahamsen also served as a member of the Camas Parks &
Recreation Commission, on the naming panel for Liberty Middle School and was President of the
East Clark County Community Concert Series; and
WHEREAS, in 2008 Eunice Abrahamsen was named as Camas Day Senior Queen and
received the Mayor's Spirit Award for her service to the community in 2016; and
WHEREAS, both Don and Eunice Abrahamsen have led distinguished lives and the City
of Camas intends through this Resolution to recognize their contributions by dedicating the
Washougal River Walking Bridge in their name;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CAMAS AS FOLLOWS:
1. The Washougal River Walking Bridge is hereby dedicated to Don and Eunice
Abrahamsen, which shall be recognized by a plaque to read as follows:
Dedicated to Don and Eunice Abrahamsen
For their passion and many years of volunteer service benefiting the citizens of
Camas.
